Pink Floyd is one of the most successful rock bands of all time selling in excess of 200 million albums world wide. They have been developing their progressive rock style for decades producing hit after hit that has earned them global critical acclaim and an enviable place in rock history. The original line up in 1965 consisted of Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Nick Mason. The band first established themselves during the late 60’s gigging around London's psychedelic underground music venues. In 1967 the band released their first album “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn” and two singles "Arnold Layne" and "See Emily Play. In 1968 David Gilmour joined Pink Floyd on guitar and vocals. Syd Barrett’s mental health was deteriorating badly and he left the band shortly after Gilmour arrived, at which point bassist and vocalist Roger Waters became the focal point of the band. In 1973 the band released the album "Dark Side of the Moon", a watershed in the bands history. The band then followed this success up with a string of albums that were best sellers:“Wish You Were Here”, “Animals” and "The Wall". In 1979 Richard Wright left the band. Roger Waters left in 1985. David Gilmour and Nick Mason carried on as Pink Floyd resulting in a legal action by Roger Waters who was opposed to them using the Pink Floyd name. Richard Wright rejoined the band and two more albums were released: “A Momentary Lapse of Reason” and “The Division Bell”. Roger Waters played with the other members of the band at the Live 8 charity concert in 2005.
